A floating installation of baskets on a boat sits in the pond of Noordwolde. Traditionally, weaving baskets was the cork on which the local economy floated. The baskets were delivered in the rest of the country and they met to a need. Now that production has been taken over by cheap wage countries, we are gradually overrun by masses of cheap products for which demand must be boosted. In the past, the baskets from Noordwolde were transported to other regions, now they are flowing in reverse towards the village. Made of willow, rattan, bamboo and plastic. It’s like an ever-rising tide of stuff. A top-heavy load for a small boat.
