Tools for Life

Tools for Life – are the needles that created, restaured, renewed. They are a symbol for the small scale silk production in the area of Nakanojo in Japan. These bamboo needles, covered with scraps of old fabrics, are a tribute to the women who patiently and meticulously spinned, wove and sew silk threads into mesmerizing patterns in many shades of blue. We can only look through the eye of the needle and guess at what was lost and what can be gained of their memory.
