When a village vanishes because of emigration, war or fire, the chimneys are the only sign of the former human habitat. Once they were the center of human activity. Now they are a kind of monument, a salute of the habitants of the past to the contemporary passerby.
Nieuw Verleden (New Past) is an ongoing exhibition project in the man made land around Lelystad, to create a sense of history in a place that was part of the sea until 60 years ago.
