Neues Gewebe means ‘Newly woven/new threads’. The sculpture is inspired by the history of the textile industry in the area of Neukirchen-Vluyn (Germany). The weaving mills were not only a well-oiled new industry in their day, they also symbolized the network of local society. Everyone was connected by the threads of the textile. The textile was subsequently sold all over the country. Now the world of textile production is globalized. The fabric of many societies has changed in all strata as a result, just like Neukirchen-Vluyn today. The new threads follow winding, unpredictable paths. They beam with energy, red as blood in the veins of contemporary society.
